Hand Plane Techniques Performing precision work with the hand plane is almost considered a lost art today, however, Francis Moeller will soon have you planing like an old master in his new Hand Plane Techniques class. As a natural follow on to the Hand Plane Tune-up class, Francis Moeller will teach you how to properly use a hand plane to square up a board. Students will be using perfectly tuned #5 bench planes. During the class, students will adjust the plane for proper cutting and then with the use of winding sticks. flatten both faces while keeping them parallel to one another. Students will then plane both edges straight and parallel while keeping them perpendicular to the faces. Properly planed wood does not require sanding and finishes better than wood that has been sanded. Once you have perfected your technique, you may decide never to use sand paper again! Planes and all materials will be supplied. |
